I just leave them alone unless the nest is by the door or bothersome.
But that's rarely the case. They are scavengers. It's great hillbilly
entertainment to drink a beer and watch them pick flying insects right
out of the air. The nest dies in the winter and queens go off to find
nooks in which to over-winter. It's common to throw a log on the fire in
the winter and hear a bzzzz and then silence. You also learn to shake
your gloves out before putting them on on cool mornings. :)
