The thing that bothered me most about the ascendance of digital was that it
gave free rein to the engineers. I've know quite a few that fancied
themselves photographers, and very very few took even average photos. They
obsessed over silly technical things that didn't matter. So I'm with Mike,
go take some photos.
And about searching for more sharpness, sharper photos aren't better ones.

I think this is something of the 'blind men and the elephant'. It
depends upon where you look. All you engineers are the blind men who are
dissecting the animal and arguing minutia and in the process have killed
the damn thing
After you have 'enough' pixels who cares? How much detail is 5x as much
blue sky? Clouds? Water? And the whole thing changes if you take a few
steps one way or the other. Or the light changes.
Go take some photos
:)
My supposition is that the print from (b) will be 5 times sharper (5 x
more detail) than the one
from (a) because each inch from it contains information from 5 pixels, not
just 1 pixel. Reply?
