The adobe subscription @$120/yr just isn't appealing to me. I have tried
LRv5 and just didn't get it. Not that it's not powerful.I just don't
like the gui. Nor do I use the database. That leaves PS which I might
use very occasionally. The value isn't there for me as an occasional
user. The subscription is always compared to stand-alone versions as if
one were to continually upgrade. Sure the subscription is continually
upgraded but that doesn't add value for me. I'm happy picking up the
last year's version on sale and living with it for a while. I still use
CS2 :)
I also tried PSE and use it on occasion but don't think I'll upgrade.
The current version can be had for $50. Frankly Faststone gets it done
for web posts since I don't mess around in post much and DxO if I want
to go RAW. Might give ON1 a try some day. .. And there are other very
capable freebies

PS Brian, my C: drive is a 256gb SSD which is plenty big enough for me.
These days a 500 is about the same price. Makes a HUGE difference. I
only run programs off the SSD and have spinning drives for everything
else. I added a second 256 SSD and point the cache there but with a 500
you have plenty of room for cache. Ask your guy to add the 2tb drive
_and_ swap the 500 C: drive for an SSD. The single best thing you can
do. Use the money that you don't send to Adobe :)
