I was lucky to get 15-17k *miles* out of rear (255 rear, 235 front) set of
Michelin Pilots Sport PS2s (summer rubber) on my ZHP (slightly hot rodded from
factory BMW 330). Bridgestone Potenza RE760s ran a little longer, but not by
much. The fronts lasted twice as long. OEM was Pilot A/S, but the PS2s were a
whole other beast, much more grip, and living in mild Southern California, I
went for summer rubber as long as I had the car.
That car was *very* sensitive to pressure. A few pounds off on either side of
spec and I could feel it. Slightly under, it felt squishy on turn-in, and had a
tendency to go from understeer to oversteer very quickly in steady state
corners. Over a few pounds made the ride harsh.
My other cars, I tend to run about 5 pounds over, especially on the front for
the FWD ones, to no ill effect (and better turn-in). Going to 10 got better
handling but the ride was terrible (especially short wheelbase ecoboxes) on the
decaying concrete freeways, so it’s back to 5 over.
