Hi Chuck,
Several years ago, when I purchased mine, they were $350 - 500, as I
recall. Now that Leica has released the SL camera, which can use these
lenses, the prices have been drifting upward.

Are R lenses relatively cheap now that the mount has been abandoned?

Chuck,
The Leica SL, around $7000, body only, can, with an adapter, use the
Leica-R lenses. That's a pretty steep price. I make good use of them
on Oly 4/3 and Fuji bodies.

Ah, I see that there are no more Leica DSLRs. I didn't know that.

What does the R stand for. I can see that the adapter for the
lens is
labeled L(R). Does the R series have a unique mount?
Yes indeedy, it's an SLR, hence the "R" for reflex, and needed a
longer
register distance to clear the mirror box. (And otherwise, it couldn't
be adapted to a 4/3 camera.)
Whole 'nother thing from the classic Leica rangefinders.
