Chuck,
The Leica SL, around $7000, body only, can, with an adapter, use the
Leica-R lenses. That's a pretty steep price. I make good use of them
on Oly 4/3 and Fuji bodies.

Yes indeedy, it's an SLR, hence the "R" for reflex, and needed a longer
register distance to clear the mirror box. (And otherwise, it couldn't
be adapted to a 4/3 camera.)
Whole 'nother thing from the classic Leica rangefinders.
