John,
I don't know how old your house is but our very old cottage (1850-60)
in north wales was subject to damp so i did some research and found this
site of interest
<http://www.heritage-house.org/managing-damp-in-old-buildings.html>
venting the windows helped get the humidity down - however after having
had to remove some plaster due to damp we have just found out that the
roof was leaking which was not helping, I may still install one of the
maglev based extraction fans though.
BTW they have a 40-150 in my local shop window and a very handsome and
decent lens it looks, not for me I will stay with Fuji but decided
against their equivalent and in rash purchase triggered somewhat by
images recently posted by moose bought the Fuji 100-400 thinking it
would get more use - must get around to posting some images from our
recent "dream night at the Zoo" visit in Zurich

Price for the 40-150 with 1.4TC is 1400CHF not sure how that compares to
the UK, but I will be over from 2nd week in July if you want one "imported

Same as you do... in several drawers in the bedroom chests. Where you
store them it not the problem. If you have an air-conditioned house
and keep the humidity at 60% or less you will not get fungus no matter
how and where the lenses are stored. I have a couple of lenses which
have bad fungus which are simply stored in a plastic bag and put in
with the others. They've been like that for more that 20 years. The
fungus has not spread to the other lenses as some seem to think it
will. The difference is that my houses have been air-conditioned and
pains taken to make sure the humidity is held in check.
Fungus spores are everywhere but they only thrive where it's moist.

Hi all, I keep all my spare lenses in a large set of
drawers. recently i have thinned the herd to finance a 12-40 f2.8 pro
lens and a 40-150 f2.8 pro lens for m4/3. I sent them along with some
camera bodies to a well respected camera dealer who does commission
and cash sales. Much to my surprise he found 2 mint in box 50mm f 1.8
lenses had fungus, Tokina ATX 35/70 had fungus/hazy elements, and
Oly 35-107lens also had fungus/ hazy elements. I have no doubt about
the integrity of the dealer, the lenses had not been used for a
number of years and the storage conditions had not been up to
standard!!! A salutary lesson in how to turn money into landfill !! I
need to rethink my camera storage. The deal said that he had in the
past been sent a consignment of lenses - still sealed and boxed -
from Olympus. On opening the consignment a great number of the lenses
were found to be suffering from the dreaded fungus. How do other list
members store their equipment? Regards John Duggan, Wales, UK
