When I look at this one I don't see a problem with light... I see a

I think should suddenly pop into focus... but it doesn't. Pretty damned
close but not quite.

Hmmm. I didn't put it there to illustrate critical focus but yellow. But
I don't see the problem with it you point to.
And there we have the reality. Even before taste, everyone's visual system is different. Chuck has always been highly
sensitive to focal plane and OoF foreground objects. You are concerned with yellow. Yet to my eyes, your example is
quite a bit too green for talk about yellow. Never mind if it was so, the many daffys I've known aren't green. AG sees
subtleties of color rendition that I don't. Some folks are very happy with really soft images. Lots of softness in
something that seems like it's supposed to be sharp bother me.I love the rather impressionistic look of reflections and
long shots over hot earth, and Carol says they make her eyes go funny.
And after all that, there's taste.
I've watched many people go through my handful of photo books. Everyone notices different things. although a few images
are universally liked, there's lots of differences about the rest. An image that will stop one person in their tracks
will simply be flipped by by another.
I have more to say about taste, but in a different reply.
I guess I'm a chump.
Hardly. :-)
