I'm no expert on the C5050. I don't think I've ever seen one. But your question caused me to wonder exactly how my various cameras know the card door is open.

I first checked the E-M1 and was surprised to discover that it doesn't know and doesn't care. The only thing it cares about is whether a card is installed.

Next was the Canon 5D. It does know and does care. The door (like the E-M1) slides toward the back of the camera before it opens. I inspected the hinge side of the door and discovered a small "L" shaped protrusion on one side that was not on the other. The bottom leg of the "L" activates a tiny switch as the door slides toward the front of the camera. If this mechanism stopped working I'd suspect that the bottom leg of the "L" had broken off. It might possibly be repaired by super gluing a replacement piece of plastic. Doing it properly would require a new door or perhaps just the plastic part. The door is made of both metal and plastic. The plastic part looks as though it can be removed and replaced with 2 screws. Canon probably assumed this would eventually break and need replacing.

I next turned to the Samsung P&S but I couldn't test it because all 3 batteries were dead (more on that in another post). Anyhow, I don't think it knows or cares about the battery/card door because I can see no electrical or mechanical connection other than a hinge and mechanical door latch. But it's possible there is another hidden switch possibly activated by the door latch. But I won't know until I have a charged battery.

MY old C5050 is giving me fits.

It keeps telling me the card door is open (It's NOT!)

This used to happen about once or twice a week, now its everytime I go
    to use it.

Back-in-the-day, opening and reclosing the door would stop the problem.

Now, it seems to have nil effect.

It's a shame because this is nice camera to carry and handy to use,
    with great macro.

    Anybody else had this problem?
