I've been using the Tamron 35-80/2.8-3.8 for a number of years, and it has
ben one of my favourite field lenses for casual wildflower and landscape
photography. If I go into an area that I know has narrow canyons, I prefer a
wider angle zoom such as the Tamron 28-80/3.5-4.2 or Quantaray 28-80/3.5-4.5.
Last summer I acquired a Samyang 18-28/4.0-4.5 to give me more flexibility
with canyon situations. The zoom and focus controls are a bit faster than I
would have liked, but it was far less expensive than other lenses of this range
and I have been impressed with the optical quality of the Samyang lenses I
have. I have yet to use it in the field.

>Vivitar & Tamron both made one, if you need 2.8 (the Tamron is 2.8-3.8).
