That he can do 100 miles/week is impressive. But watch out for the
balance problem. My uncle (92 at the time) died 2 years ago from
falling down the basement stairs... and then hung on for a week in the
hospital.
As to the tail gunner being a 2nd Lt. you'll have to ask your dad.
Anything is possible I suppose but I think it unlikely.

Yep. He's 91 and could ride with Nathan on an easy day. He still manages
to do 100mi a week or so. His balance isn't so good any more which is a
cause for worry. He's a Luddite and doesn't even have a stupid fone.
The tail gunner looks to have been a civilian, Daniel J.O'Conner, Jr. ..
I believe he was a 2nd Lt. I think that they were generous with
commissions during the war.
