I tried finding an opthamologist (sp?) by way of Yelp yesterday, but got
pretty frustrated. I'd be better off driving down the street and looking for a
business sign. It's no wonder they did away with the Yellow Pages, as now they
can manipulate things and send you to whoever pays the highest advertising fee.
So I went a different route. I checked into my primary naturopathic
reference yesterday evening and learned more about this. This form of
"floater" is called "fibrillar degeneration of the vitreous", and it's a result
of long term exposure to sunlight. It is common amongst adults and
near-sighted people. They are visible under certain light and backgrounds
(which I've already observed) and are considered benign, eventually fading
away.
In my naturopathic reference, one of the recommendations to prevent this
is a supplement of 25,000 IU of Vitamin A, which sounds a lot like taking a big
bite out of a polar bear liver. It is to be taken with lutein and zeavanthin.
I'll check with Swanson later to see what they have as they are the very best
source for dietary supplements.
One of the country's largest naturopathic medicine schools is just down
the street from me. I'm going to drop by and see if they can refer me to
someone who has a naturopathic opthomalgic practise.
These "floaters" are very slowly moving from left to right, and looking
back I now realise that they have been here for weeks. I had earlier thought
that they were stray strands of hair tangled with my glasses. This morning the
largest one is almost in the centre and has faded noticeably since yesterday.
Since these are a result of exposure to sunlight, I've dragged out and
cleaned my aviator sunglasses.
