Things are getting back to normal for most people in Charleston area. I
had no trouble getting to work this morning. The places that usually flood
are still struggling and will have a lot of clean up to do. Given the
amount of rain (they are calling this a 1000 year event, although I don't
know how they know this; 1000 years ago the only people here were the
Kiawah and Seewee Indians) however, there has been a lot of flooding in
areas that don't usually have a problem. Columbia is getting it worse than
here. There are two large rivers, the Saluda and Broad rivers, that
converge in the middle of the city to form the Congaree River. Saluda
drains the areas west of the city and the Broad drains from the north all
the way into NC. There will be a lot of water coming down these rivers over
the next few days. I've heard that a few small dams have failed as well.
