With a FF 35 mm AOV, the tele problems aren't there. :-)
It does have decent CU capability, albeit poor unless stopped down a lot. But I
don't recall you doing much of that.
The reason I used a separate button was to permit me to focus on precisely
what I wanted to shoot, and then reframe for the actual shot, where the
metering also kicked in.
So much of your serious work with the Nikons was on a tripod. No problem of the human body swaying forth and back that
some of us less dedicated folks have been known to encounter.
