19CL has an interesting and unfortunate marketing tactic here. Every so
often I'll have a couple of young guys from 19CL knocking on my front door to
tell me about how they have improved the connectivity speed by installing
optical fiber. Just one thing: This entire neighbourhood is still connected by
way of twisted pair cable, and the nearest optical fiber trunk/feeder is about
a half mile away. My twisted pair cable is above ground until about 200 yards
away, where it goes to an underground cable that has a leaking jacket that used
to short out my pair whenever there was a quarter inch or more of rain. That
goes through an alley to a ground-level junction box that is periodically
covered with one of those thick Hefty lawn bags. Despite having 6-inch
diameter concrete-filled pipes around it, it is still hit by vehicles. They
are only now replacing the enclosure with a new one, and there is no optical
fibre interface in it.
19CL actually makes QWest (aka QWorst) look good.
