Certainly I do know, as it's the reason I gave up wearing baseball hats and switched to hats with brims flexible enough
for portrait format shootin'. Coincidentally, most also keep the tops of my ears from sunburn. :-)
I have no idea whether direct sun does any of the bad things some attribute to it. I do know I don't like it in my eyes.
I have never understood the point of hats like fezzes and those brimless hats worn in some African countries.*
