I;ve got a 3880 and a R2000, and both require very infrequent head
cleanings. Just ran had cleaning on the 3880 last week, first time in over a
year.

Subject: Re: [OM] Anyone printing - current recommended paper
I eventually went to Epson Luster for the bulk of what I printed, with Moab’s
Exhibition Luster for special shots. For black and white, I used Canson
Bartya or Epson Exhibition Fiber. If I needed matte, I used Velvet Fine Art
or Ultrasmooth Fine Art.
The printer start-up issues seem to plague most Epson printers below the
Stylus Pro 3880. My old 2800 (I think) required a head cleaning every time
it sat for more than a day. All that nonsense stopped when I stepped up to a
Stylus Pro 4800. Same with the 3880. Epson’s take a huge leap forward when
you go Stylus Pro. But if you don’t print very often, they’re not terribly
cost effective. I know Canon makes some very good printers. I wonder if they
have similar ink issues. Never used one, so I don’t know.

As the subject says, is anyone printing these days? and if so what paper
is best?. I was using ilford gold fibre silk but it dissapeared from the
supply chain when I last wanted to order so I started looking around, I
see the gold fibre is back but wondering if anyone has any other
recommendations, printing with epson R2880 and while one the subject any
opnions on ink systems - I print rarely these days but it seems that
everytime I start the printer I need to replace at least one ink
cartridge.
Thanks in advance for any advice/comments
