Another vote for the 190CX pro. Even with a Manfrotto ballhead attached, and a
further gubbins on top of that to engage with the Arca Swiss dovetails on my
handgrip, it is still a tripod that is easily carried. The Carbon Fibre tripods
are much stiffer than the Aluminium versions and in my opinion the way to go.

Subject: Re: [OM] Velbon VS-433D tripod query
Your Manfrotto 190cxPro looks like a smaller and (very much) lighter
version of my Manfrotto 3030(?). Big and very heavy and the center
column pulls out to go horizontal and can also be replaced by a stubby
version to get low to the ground. Nice tripod if you don't mind lugging
(what seems like) 400 pounds. It only gets used around the house or
somewhere within 100 feet of the car.
I did not have any chance to handle the Velbon VS-443D. I only looked
at it and briefly picked it up. I do confess some reservations about
the off-center "center post" but the versatility it provides is
intriguing. Given the extra leg sections I think the cam lock legs are
a requirement. Watching a couple reviews on YouTube seems to show it
comfortably holding cameras and lenses larger than the E-Mx thingies. As
to carbon fiber I've never even seen let alone picked up a CF tripod.
I'm still very much interested in this Velbon but will look around some
more to see if there's anything else out there that is functionally
competitive and lighter weight.
