Well, I did read the manual on the 9-18. Otherwise I wouldn't know how
to open or close it. The 75-300 doesn't appear to have any odd buttons
or controls I don't recognize but maybe I should read the manual to be
sure. :-)

I wish mine didn't have the power zoom. It's really there for video, and I much prefer the speed of manual for stills. Sometimes the ring slips out of M, and it takes a moment to realize and correct. I'm sure I never read the manual. When I get a now thingie, I look closely at it and mess with all the knobs, wheels, rings, buttons, etc. If you should ever get the amazing 60/2.8 macro, be sure to do the above or read the manual before use. There's a switch on the barrel that does interesting and useful things. M.
