Hold your horses. I just tried it again and discovered that the "stop"
isn't as firm as I thought. I can go past it with a bit more pressure.
I'd say now that there is some sort of slip clutch.

The ring moves against the stops only in E-ZOOM and locks in MACRO as expected.
