Trees can be your friend. My father kept his certification UTD after the war and as a kid we'd rent a plane every once in a while. We flew out of a couple of the little local grass strips. A couple of friends flew 'owner built'. But that's another story. One friend was learning to fly and had just soloed. This particular strip was short and surrounded by trees. Natural reaction was to grab altitude as those trees come up fast. Well, one day he stalled and went into the trees right. The trees saved his life as they cushioned the fall. He ended up about 20' in a tree upside down. You could see the spiral gashes in the bark as he came down. He came out shaken by scratch-free...until he undid his seatbelt and fell the last 20 feet!and he groundlooped it right into the trees...
