Those who are interested may also want to seek out Ken Adachi's "The Enemy that Never was: A History of the Japanese Canadians". I think in Canada we were even more unfair to residents of Japanese ancestry than the USA was. Amongst other things, whole fishing fleets (many Japanese-Canadians owned them or were employed in the industry) were confiscated and the boats left to deteriorate; nothing to come back to after the war.

A number of my friends are Sansei - many families moved further east after release from the camps or after the war, I think the majority to Toronto, to find a less hostile environment than the West Coast. Ironically in a minor way, they were moving *into* the area of some hostility to German and Italian immigrants, though that faded more quickly post-war. Interesting the regional perception of threat to the nation.

Takei has also produced "Allegiance", a big Broadway musical about the
Japanese interment in America during WWII.

Actually, only a few were buried (interred), insofar as I know, only those
who died of accident or natural causes. In contrast to the Nazi
concentration camps, where so many millions were in intentionally put to
death.

Not that what we did isn't deeply deplorable, but your misspelling/misuse
makes it sound much worse.

What a difference an N makes.

Oops. Tired fingers. Yes, internment camps. I remember reading "Farewell to
Manzanar" in High School and not quite understanding the depth of that
period of time. It was later after I'd read Takei's autobiography that it
really sank in.
