From what I hear, it's only gone further since, both in arch hipness and geographically. Carol's sister and her
husband have recently moved further out, in good part pushed by increasing rents - although going with fewer bedrooms so
the kids can't move back in is a factor, too.
They also felt the neighborhood character had been destroyed, and found a place still with a sense of
neighborhood/community. For people who have never owned a car, one of whom has never driven one, the quality of the
surrounding community is important.
Brooklyn is certainly a vibrant, interesting place. Too much pavement and too many people for me to want to spend too
long there.
