No, you're hardly an abuser of the language. Chris didn't agree but I
view "dedicated" as meaning unchangeable. As I said in another reply I
would use the word "allocated" for a multi-functional control that was
used in only one of its functions. But that's splitting hairs and
really unnecessary since I understood perfectly well what you meant.

The notion of opting out does not fit. The aperture ring on an OM MF lens is dedicated to changing the aperture. Because it is dedicated to that task there is no way of causing it to do something else. A dedicated one is enough I agree. Not sure I understand. If it's dedicated to one function, it's separate.dedicated means you can opt out and use it for a different function in my mind - separate means it's a one function wheel/switch, here exposure compensation I prefer separate, but dedicated makes perfect sense to me too, hence my agreement with you. Amities PhilippeAnd I find it not only conveniently placed but also firm enough not to randomly move at its own will (sic) What I also meant was that there are three ways to check whether it has been rotated by accident or for a previous shot, or not. No self excuse accepted if I screw the shot ;-) I hate my D700 for that unmarked flying wheel BTW. Accidents also happened with the L1. Hope this clarifies my intent.Your intent was clear. I was expressing my different experience/preferences.
