Moose, I know what you mean.I have a carbon fibre Manfrotto 190 3 section. It
is my go to tripod for all manner of work. However it is not really a travel

close enough to the ground.
I'd thought this was possible, and now I've tried it.

Releasing the legs to flip 180 deg. for storage allows it to be used upside down. No leg angle locks, but that's not a
problem. It can go right down to touching the ground - close enough? :-)
Perfect application for the WiFi remote control, so I don't have to wallow on
the ground to take the shot.
The model is, of course, a Moose. I think it's the one that uses the tiny OM-1.
As you say the never ending search for perfection. On the subject of B+H, I
have found some good deals from them this year. Their free expedited shipping,
good prices, and the fact I don't pay state taxes have resulted in some good
deals.
Yes, the advent of California sales tax collection on Amazon had changed the balance somewhat already, and the shipping
change makes B&H look even better. (Although many out of state 'fulfilled by Amazon' merchants don't charge tax here.)
A new 160gb classic ipod saved me over 25% on best UK price.
Never seen one with so much storage!! ;-)
The main issue is UPS and their delivery dates /times. Twice this year the computer has shown
"out for delivery" only for there to be a "no show" with the item delivered the
following day!
I've not had that happen with UPS or FedEx. Amazon uses OnTrac a lot here. They did once send a package back to Amazon,
saying the address could not be found, which hasn't been true the many other times they've delivered here. I took it as
a sign I didn't need what I'd ordered. :-)
