Unfortunately, it wouldn't do anything for the centering problem and it
also costs quite a bit more than many dedicated pano heads. It does
make for an interesting ball head though... after leveling the head and
locking the ball in place you can still rotate the entire head without
disturbing the level by rotating around the base.
On second thought, that doesn't work. If the tripod head is not level
but you level the camera with the ball, rotating the entire head will
unlevel the camera again. You either need to perfectly level the tripod
or else put a second rotating plate between the ball head and camera.
