I also have a small one in the truck. Mostly for the old laptop while on 
the road. It's battery life was measured in minutes. The inverter was no 
more expensive than the dedicated car adapter and much more versitile. 
It is no longer necessary with the tablet but still useful for charging 
other stuff.
