Indeed, if you imagine that you are driving the truck, turning right and
checking three or four vectors at once and the cyclist suddenly pops out from
the traffic stream ahead of you in the wrong direction… No chance. Low speed
Fatac.
On the other hand, the Diana tunnel scenario…The guy was a professional driver
who knew the ground. Every road is fraught with hazards. Wet or greasy roads,
mistakes by other drivers, vehicle component failure, rain/snow/fog visibility.
There were columns in the tunnel - and every road around here has trees. Should
we cut them all down? Why would he speed up to avoid paparazzi? - their drivers
have the Tour de France as a day job and you can't get away. Drunk = poor
judgement and poor response, environment irrelevant.
