I'm perhaps a minority of 1 in arguing that politicians should be rather well
paid, in line with senior business executives with all the fringe benefits they
enjoy - to avoid corruption and to attract the best candidates for sensible
motives. The English tried not paying politicians at all a couple of hundred
years ago and that was a disaster.
