I will sleep better tonight knowing that. Actually, I'll sleep very
well tonight since I've been up since Oh-stupid-o'clock.
I got a little bonus money that I will invest in useful stuff - my head
has been swimming the past two days with reviews of Mac-friendly RAID
enclosures. I'd love something that takes 4 or 5 drives and supports
Thundebolt, but at the moment, those are all ridiculous money, so I'm
just sorting through the reviews for the USB3/Firewire ones. Basically,
the reviews boil down to this: "It's the greatest piece of hardware
since the computer was invented" or "this POS sucks swamp water so hard
there's no water left in the swamp. Run. Run away as fast as you can.
I couldn't send this piece of ()*&&^(*&) back to the sorry excuse for a
manufacture fast enough."
Basically, I want to consolidate the music library and photo library and
the other stuff stashed on external drives onto one big array with
redundancy and error-checking. I'd look into building my own NAS, but
Backblaze will not back up a NAS volume at the moment. Plus, if I go
NAS, in order to eliminate bottlenecks I'd have to swap out my 100MBPS
ethernet switch for a Gigabit one, which would add $200 at a minimum to
the project. Uggghhhh. Drobo would be nice, but it's $600 or more for
the empty box, plus the cost of 5 hard drives.
Anyone here have solid experience with the Buffalo Quad station in
tethered (not NAS) mode?
Thanks, NFM/
