My portable is 64 bit, running Win7 64. MS Office 97 is running happily on it.
PS6 is installed both 32 & 64 bit, the
32 to accommodate some plug-ins.

On a machine with SATA headers on the motherboard, an eSATA adapter is simply a
cable that connects to a SATA header
inside and an eSATA connector on a steel cover for an adapter slot. You can get
at least two in one slot. The computer
has no idea whether any drive is inside or outside the box.
So no, you don't need the old card, but do need the very inexpensive cable
adapter.
