Thanks for the nice comments folks.
I *did* spend what seemed like 10 minutes adjusting the f-stop and the focus
point to give
what could be adequate focus from front to back.
It's a *funny* little lens; sometimes it yields quite disappointing shots,
other times with a little
massaging, it nails it.
I can't complain - for $200 on an auction site ( not your usual one)

FS helped as usual with a little USM sharpening, and I slid in a little
contrast to differentiate
the shades of colour around the anthers..
