Perhaps your problem with "sharpness" is no more than a difference of
depth of field between the small and large formats. Depending on which
cameras you're comparing you may have to close down a stop or more to
get equivalent depth of field on the larger camera. You may also be
disappointed if you're doing pixel peeping on the scans from the larger
camera. A respectable circle of confusion for a 645 is about 0.05mm.
That's a minimum spot size that would cover a lot of pixels on a much
smaller camera. If you account for these things you may realize that
your results or potential results are better than you think.
