I expected to hear from you. I noted the same thing, even with my poor
eyesight.
I will read the manual again and see if I can find a system restore
trick somewhere. That might help.
As to the low-quality images from the E-1 (in some cases), I am just
using it with an inexpensive lens as a "toss it in the car" point and
shoot for trips about town. Have been using a Leica-R lens, but now
have the ZD 35 on it.
I have a Fuji X-E1 with a zoom, as well as some legacy glass, if I need
high quality shots.
