A while ago Moose posted on m4/3 center pinch front lens caps. He said
he'd bought genuine Oly caps because they weren't that much more
expensive and he liked the Oly name to complement the camera.
When I ordered my own center pinch caps I decided to do the same. But
as luck had it B&H was out of 52mm Oly center pinch caps so I ordered
B&H's generic 52mm version for the 12-50 and the genuine Oly cap in 58mm
for the 14-150. But I'm glad it worked out that way. As it turns out
the spring pressure on the 58mm Oly cap is very weak. It makes it hard
to install properly and a light bump will cause it to fall off.
So, when my wife asked me to add something to her Amazon order to make
it qualify for free shipping I searched Amazon for another 58mm center
pinch cap and ended up ordering (get ready) a Vivitar "Series 1" lens
cap for about $5. I'm glad I did. It could well be the mate to the B&H
generic 52mm cap. It has the same strong spring pressure and snaps on
easily and firmly and doesn't fall off.
Sorry, Oly. You should have made the caps as good as the lenses.
