Not always - I'm convinced that sometimes it's just a label. And there may be
problems with preformatted stuff. But I've only ever had a problem with one RAM
chip and I suspect that it would have been a dud in a Windoze machine as well -
replaced by seller without murmur. Once Mac started using Intel, it was opened
up to reasonable cost componentry.
