I realize cities are cities, but I was particularly struck in London (figure of
speech) by the speed with which vehicles approached crosswalks, and the speed
with which they decelerated and stopped. And then the speed with which they
accelerated away only to repeat as needed across the city.
Also, I was _very impressed_ with London bus drivers, who emulated car drivers
in blasting from stop to stop, and the skill they showed in slamming on the
brakes at the precise moment when they could catch the highest number of
passengers without a firm grip on something. I came to think of it as Bus
Driver Bowling. I'm convinced drivers got a day off with pay if they could
knock down ten or more passengers at a single stop.
