Very easy. I think you are already doing it. It's just using USM with
really wide pixel settings and low percentage change.
What it does is increase the contrast at the edges between items of
brightness change. It's an old, old, old technique that dates back in
the film era where we could get this by slowing down the development
and letting the film sit unagitated for longer periods.
