Harrah's just tossed my wife and I an offer for three nights free at the
casino in Tunica, including the flight. That may present some photo
oppportunities, but what's more exciting to me is that a good friend of
mine is also a Memphis native and still lives there. Memphis is less than
a half-hour from Tunica, so I'm going to rent a car and while Sheri is
winning me a new lens, I'll be spending the day seeing Memphis from a
native's point of view. And hopefully grabbing some good BBQ and a show at
a local club.
There are a couple of touristy things I have to see, though, including the
reconstructed Stax studios, The Lorraine Hotel (where the Stax musicians
hung out because it was the only place in Memphis with a swimming pool that
allowed African-Americans to swim, and it's also the place where Dr. Martin
Luther King was assasinated), and probably drive past Graceland. But then
I want to see the places that are cool that only a guy who's lived her his
whole life would know about.
We're going on April 21st, and naturally I'll be posting photos here....
