Pistol grip, and has the pano scale thing built in.
I have a Slik pistol grip head and the long distance between the bottom
of the camera and the base of the ball (5 inches) could really be a
problem with a heavy camera. For my use it works fine. It came on a
used tripod that I bought. That Vanguard looks pretty good to me. But
then, I am no expert on this stuff. LOL Just a suggestion.
