Those ploughs are pretty neat. They can work separately, or in tandem. The
outer sweep is generally used one of two ways: knocking back snow banks from
previous plough passes, thus making room for more snow; or channeling the snow
from the front blade off to the side. You can cut a wider path that way. One
four-lane roads, we often see two trucks in formation, one slightly ahead of
the other, passing the snow from the outer truck's front blade to the side
sweep to the front blade of the trailing truck and off his sweep to the side of
the highway. It's a wonder to behold.
