After quite a bit of a struggle, I've come to the conclusion that the
after-market RM-UC1 shutter releases from China et al are pretty worthless.
Neither of the ones that I bought would function, and after looking into this
by way of various blogs it seems that the problem is that the 12-pin USB
connector is not made to the same dimensions as the Olympus original, and this
problem is fairly common.
By jury-rigging a remote switch I determined that the remote function at
the camera body USB connector is working properly and under magnification I can
see that the connector is not damaged in any way. The problem comes down to
the fact that the connector on the cable does not seat down deeply enough and
therefore cannot make proper contact with the camera body connector contacts.
Has anyone purchased an after-market RM-UC1 remote switch that functions
properly? I'm going to go down to the local camera shop to see if they have a
format Olympus unit that I can try to see if it's worth the extra cost.
