Look about half way down this thread: http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/microsoft-public-windows-vista-general/129044-start-menu-closes-too-quickly-windows-vista-trouble-renaming.html It seems this guy cured it by unplugging his whole usb hub. Further investigation showed that he had a usb stick plugged in it with an autorun program that Vista didn't like.
