Joel, take a look at the Yahoo group "Digital B&W,the print". They have
complete setups for the 1400/1430 printers in the files. You may have to join
to view them. I only follow the postings (generally over my head), but would
like to have a dedicated b&w printer some day.

Doubtless all true. I will have to use the 1400 more in order either to
destroy it and "need" a new photo printer or learn to make it succumb to
my wishes to the extent possible. So having not yet broken it in the
last day, I have been pretty impressed with the profiles that came with
the printer for Epson's Luster paper. I am getting a straight print
which is sort of "bromide" looking, but without metamerism. I can work
with it.
I seem to have successfully worked out a curves action which gives the
print image a selenium-toned look. I am quite excited about it.
The most immediate disappointment is that the blacks don't quite
resemble wet photographic paper blacks.
