We have friends in Vienna, VA (not far from where we also lived in the
70s). They tell us (by cell phone, no landline service) that it will
likely be a week before they have power. A week to restore power tells
me that service has been very widely disrupted by very numerous small
breaks from falling trees, etc.
One can get that sort of disruption (or longer) in Florida when a
hurricane comes to visit but at least you have a few days warning to
know to stock up on gas, water, ice and other needs.
