Oh, lets see...no parts or bad wide angles. That does it for me, and the
fact that there is an authorized independent repairman within a half hour of
my home, who would indeed sell me just the part. Whew, that was scary for
just a minute or so.

Shortly, Nikon will start their new parts policy. NO parts sales to
anyone, except their ASCs (Authorized Service centers). SO, if you
dream of being able to buy a battery door to do-it-yourself, you'd be
directed to one of those ASCs (many get F grade from BBB) to pay $120 or
more for installation of said battery door, and a "safety check" to make
sure your camera meets factory specs.
For now netter off staying with Canon.
