Yeah, I have mixed feelings about it. I have to make a choice when I go out
for a hike. Digital, color film, B&W film are my three choices. If I take
digital, is it the E-1 or DMC-L1? If I take color film, which speed? B&W?
Speed issues again. Before I realize it, I've packed a bag with two digital
bodies, two film bodies and a full suite of lenses.

The last major backpacking/photo trip that was film involved a couple OM
bodies and a handful of lenses. That really wasn't too bad.

A film-only backpack trip for me right now would probably look something
like this:
OM-3Ti
OM-4T
24/2.8
50/1.4
100/2.8
Ilford Delta 100 for the one camera, Portra 160NC for the second. A few
extra rolls of Delta 400 and Portra 400 for the "high speed" stuff.
Filters, compact tripod, cable release.

If I'm able to haul a bit more weight and do day-hikes:
OM-3Ti
OM-4T
24/2.8
50/1.4
100/2
200/4
Ilford Delta 100 for the one camera, Portra 160NC for the second. A few
extra rolls of Delta 400 and Portra 400 for the "high speed" stuff.
Filters, compact tripod, cable release.

Now do a little comparison to the digital age:
DSLR of choice
Wide to normal zoom.
Batteries and memory cards.

Yeah, digital wins.

But let's be a little narrower in scope and coverage. What if I'm thinking
in terms of focused B&W film photography:
OM-3Ti or OM-4T
24/2.8
50/1.4
100/2.8
Ilford Delta 100, 400, filters, compact tripod and cable release

OK, what about an event shoot with film?
OM-4T with MD2 and 35-80/2.8
OM-4T with MD2 and 24/2.8 or 100/2 or 200/4.
Portra 400

As you can see, today's digital era is a whole lot simpler.
