There are at least three different manufacturers of each, it seems, and
perhaps a half dozen sellers of each of those. I went through three M42
adapters before I found one that fit. When I went shopping for my Minolta
MC/MD adapter I bought it from Roxsen first and I was not disappointed.
It's a bit strange as the manufacturer took out the locking mechanism so as
to get it thin enough to fit. Instead, there's a single set screw along the
edge that tightens a brake that holds it to the lens, which is perfectly
okay with me.
