The film from the Leica was developed today. I haven't seen it yet
(I'll pick it up tomorrow) but just got off the phone with the
proprietor who said I have good news and bad news. The good news is
that there's no charge for the developing. The bad news is that there's
nothing on the film except some red and blue light streaks on one side
of the film near the sprocket holes and equal to the width of the
camera... obviously the spot that was accidentally exposed when I
removed the bottom plate. The entire rest of the film is clear (orange
base) and has never seen light.
But the final good news (sort of) is that I was way off in my estimate
of having rewound perhaps half of the 24 exposure roll. Nothing of the
sort. The lightly exposed edge of the film starts approximately four
frames in from the start of the roll. Conclusion: The film had been
loaded but no exposures had ever been made on that roll.
I'm ecstatic and sorely disappointed at the same time. Sorry for the
anticlimactic ending.
