If it's just balsam, and not fungus I would think that the lens could be
repaired.
Whether it would be cost effective to repair it is another question.

Yup,
I had one, bought from a list member. Very nice lens in pristine
condition. Took some very nice film shots with it . Used it one day and the
image looked VERY fuzzy. Inspected lens to find that the front element had
separated over about 1/3 of its area. Balsam was spreading everywhere. Still
got it in a drawer somewhere! would be VERY wary of buying one ..sight unseen
off the Bay.

Yes, I saw that, too. Half-heartedly looking for the Tammy equivalent.
There's some discussion on the two lenses in the list archives. Tammy
probably a little better optically, but the Tokina had handling
advantages. I also vaguely remember reading something about a tendency
for separation in one of the Tokina element groups (front?)
